Donald Trump has finally been held accountable for his actions. Now, it’s time for the punishment to match the crime — and the appallingly poor behavior of the defendant.
Throughout the entire legal process, Donald Trump has shown nothing but contempt and derision for our rule of law, the judge and his family, the witnesses against him, and has behaved like a spoiled brat who is infuriated at the idea that the rules might apply to him. It’s time to remind him and the nation that nobody is above the law — and thumbing your nose after your getting caught won’t help your case.
Tell Judge Merchan to send Trump to jail!
After his conviction, Trump declared that “this was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt…This was a rigged trial, a disgrace, this was done by the Biden administration in order to wound or hurt an opponent, a political opponent.” Throughout the trial, Trump attacked everyone and anyone involved, to the point where Judge Merchan had to issue a gag order and then fine him several thousands of dollars for continuing to violate it.
Such behavior underscores the grim truth that Trump has gotten away with breaking the law his entire life and has been in a months-long tantrum because justice is finally being served against him. It’s up to Judge Merchan to take the difficult decision of jailing Donald Trump. Our democracy and the rule of law depend upon it.
